Illustrate & Write A Children’s Book (4 Half Day Sessions!)

In this workshop series, we will apply the principles of numerous well-known children’s authors and illustrators, review good practices from our carefully curated CCB library of children’s books, and unlock our creative illustrative skills through explorations with unexpected materials during each session. We will draw from our imaginations, capture the essence of a story, and produce our visuals around a well-crafted narrative, whether with rhyme, alliteration, playful repetition, or even wordless. Let the illustrations tell the story!
March 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th – 10am till 1pm includes 10% café and shop discount on the workshop days.
In this fun, hands-on-from-the-start workshop series, you will get to:
- Apply good practice for a wide variety of picture book types
- Develop a plot structure and storyboard it
- Work on character development (written and design)
- Look at writing techniques and styles
- Create a book dummy for words and pictures
- Develop your style and approach for page spreads
- Explore illustrative techniques and unusual materials
- Design your book cover
- Cover final artwork and book design file for submission

* Please note this ticket purchases four sessions on consecutive Friday mornings with the final Friday joining the monthly Children’s Book Workshop Meet Up where you can meet your peers and share your work with them for feedback and they will with theirs. 🙂
In terms of setting expectations this workshop block is for 12 hours in total (3 hours x 4 sessions) and will allow you to set the scene for your book, create a book dummy and establish the tool kit skills required to take it to completion. Full book completion, however, will naturally require more than 12 hours work! A monthly meet up is provided for those who have attended the workshop series before and allows you to maintain momentum 🙂
